Ready to vacation in one of the most beautiful places on Earth? St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands fits the bill. As far as transportation, a jeep rental is the perfect option. One stressful part about vacation is driving around in unfamiliar territory. To help ease your mind, the team at St. John Car Rental answers some of the frequent questions we receive.
Are there different driving laws in St. John?
In St. John, you will be driving on the left side of the road, which will be new to most people. Other than that, however, most rules of the road are the same as the states. Buckle up, it’s the law here, too. Children should be in the back seat and in a car seat, if necessary. There are companies on the island that rent car seats as well. You must also have a valid U.S. driver’s license. If you are from outside of the U.S., you can purchase a 30-day temporary license for $30.
Where am I allowed to drive a rental car in St. John?
Our Jeep and SUV rentals are required to stay on St. John and not allowed to be driven off the island. Additionally, the beaches are protected natural parks, and vehicles are not allowed to drive on them. Not to worry, there are plenty of exciting places to visit that are fully accessible with one of our 4-wheel drive rentals.
Is proof of auto insurance required in St. John?
U.S. Virgin Island law does require that all drivers are insured and covered to drive in the territory. Be sure to contact your auto insurance provider to make certain you have the proper coverage and bring proof along with you.
